Hamtramck citizens turned out to speak with their mayor and a member of the police department about strategies for keeping the community beautiful, safe, and friendly. A motion was made and seconded to form a block club. Jim Shaw, a Pulaski Street resident, was elected the first Pulaski Street Block Club captain. Today, this block club continues to meet, to give Hamtramck residents a forum for discussing important community issues and proactively addressing the new needs of changing city neighborhoods. Anyone who would like to participate, listen in on, or propose new ideas to the Pulaski Street Block Club is encouraged to attend one of the groups regular meetings.
