Construction on Detroit's newest office tower, located at 777 Griswold Avenue, continues at a feverish pace. A giant foutain centers Campus Martius Park in downtown Detroit. Some of Detroit's newest and oldest buildings line up together quite nicely.
This photo shows Merchants Row, a housing development along Woodward Avenue in downtown Detroit. The new lofts were once home to retailers. Griswold Street, shown here on a quiet Sunday, is the heart of Detroit's financial district. The Fox Theater in Detroit is the highest grossing theater in the United States.
Giant torches, this one celebrating industry, mark the corners of Campus Martius Park in downtown Detroit. Majestic buildings line Washington Blvd. in downtown Detroit. The First National Building overlooks a row of restaurants and bars, as well as 600 Woodward, soon to contain loft housing.
The Ford Building is among Detroit's early twentieth-century hallmarks. The Kales Building overlooks Grand Circus Park and has just undergone a multi-million dollar renovation into apartment housing. Tucked behind the Fox Theater, the Town Pump Tavern is an ivy covered saloon with fiercely loyal patrons.
Adjacent to the Town Pump Tavern in Foxtown is the newly renovated Iodent Building, which includes a two story art deco bar and housing in upper floors. A statue of William Cotter Maybury surveys Woodward and Adams from the eastern half of Grand Circus Park. This magnificent sculpture stands in the foutain of Grand Circus Park's eastern half.
New condominiums at the 1001 Woodward building call for more parking, and developers are on top of things. Formerly located at Woodward and Elizabeth Streets, the Elwood Bar and Grille was moved to East Adams and Brush to make way for Comerica Park. The Spirit of Detroit statue stands guard over the city from the City-County Building, located near Woodward and Jefferson Avenues.
